Vientiane gears up to make capital more livable
Vientiane authorities will continue to improve basic infrastructure in a bid to keep the capital clean and orderly. Efforts will focus on improving roads, easing traffic congestion, building embankments, managing garbage disposal and other issues. This was the information outlined on January 9 by Vientiane Mayor Dr Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune during the second session of the Vientiane People’s Council, which is taking place from January 9-17. Dr Sinlavong said that improving basic infrastructure was in line with the government’s 8th National Socio-economic Development Plan. Improving roads will make the capital a safer, more modern, orderly and attractive place to live, work and visit, Dr Sinlavong said. It was necessary to expand and improve the road network to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. The authorities also needed to enforce traffic and construction laws in the city centre, he added.
